Who We Are
Purpose Statement
The purpose of Boise State University Wellness Services is to empower individuals in their lifelong commitment to health by providing comprehensive wellness resources to the campus community.

Health Promotion/Wellness Defined
Health promotion and wellness, although technically having different definitions, are used interchangeably. Simply put, these terms are defined as taking an individual or an organization to an optimal level of health.
Wellness Services defines wellness and health promotion as an active process, a choice and a way of living that is sensitive and responsive to all of the dimensions of the body, mind, and spirit. It is achieved through a lifetime of renewing and enhancing our greatest self by exercising all of the dimensions of our nature regularly, and consistently, in wise and balanced ways. Programming and services provide the opportunity to explore, adopt and sustain healthful patterns, as well as promote the wise use of health services available. A sense of responsibility for personal and community health is fostered, as the gap between health information and health behaviors is lessened.
Wellness Services operates in accordance with the standards of practice developed by the American College Health Association (ACHA).
Eligibility
Students: All currently enrolled Boise State University students are eligible to utilize Wellness Services' offerings and services.
Employees: All current Boise State University employees are eligible to participate in Employee Wellness Programming offerings.
Community: Certain Wellness Services programming is open to the community.

Each Wellness Services program or service has specific directions, in regards to utilization or participation. It is best to check the advertising for specific programs or services your are interested in for this information.
Fees
Most programming and services offered by Wellness Services are low to no cost. It is best to review the advertising for the specific program or service you are interested in for specific fee information.

Implemented and maintain Step it Up, Take the Stairs green signs placed near elevator call buttons are designed to promote the use of stairs within campus buildings. The purpose of this project is to increase physical activity among employees and students.

General Health

Mental and Emotional Health
- Implement educational campaigns by Peer Educators
Nutrition
- Offer Nutrition Q and A, hosted at the Recreation Center, where students and employees can drop in and ask qualified staff for nutritional advice
- Assist Dining Services with healthy recipes
- Assist Dining Services with improving offerings for international students and patrons with food allergies
- Continue to improve healthy campus vending machine options (currently 15% Balanced Choices offered)
- Implement educational campaigns by Peer Educators
Sexual Health
- Implemented and maintain residence hall condom machines, a state funded program in which each machine is accompanied by consent and educational messaging
- Provide access to condoms and educational materials at various locations
- Offer workshops on sexual decision making, healthy relationships, contraception, sexually transmitted infections, breast health and testing and treatment
- Provide HIV testing and consultation services
- Promote contraception availability and sexual health screenings and treatment offered by Medical Services
- Implement educational campaigns by Peer Educators
Sexual Assault/Violence Prevention
- Promote campus sexual assault response resources (womenscenter.boisestate.edu)
- Collaborate with Women’s Center on consent and bystander campaigns
- Working with key constituents to have new students review and sign off on the campus’s sexual assault and alcohol, tobacco and other drug policies
Sleep
- Provide targeted assessments
- Promote intervention and treatment services available
- Implement educational campaigns by Peer Educators
Stress Management
- Provide targeted assessments
- Offer medical massage services, massage workshops, and advertise general massage program.
- Provide Survive and Thrive Orientation sessions and materials to new students
- Support Student Involvement and Leadership Finals Relief efforts
- Implement educational campaigns by Peer Educators
